Summer is the season of vacations, pool parties, and backyard barbecues. If you aren’t careful, however, a fun family cookout can turn tragic in a split second. Every year there are an estimated 8,900 grill fires at U.S. homes, leading to an average of $110 million in damage to property. While 5,100 of the fires are contained outside, 3,900 of them involve a house or other structure. In addition, grill fires are responsible for about 160 injuries—and 10 fatalities—every year.

Each campground is different as each camping experience is different. Maybe you like to "glamp" and stay in a temperature controlled camper and have all your luxuries at hand. Or maybe you are a "get back to nature" camper with just a tent and jug of water. Either way, nobody wants to have a bad camping experience. Read through some camping etiquette and make sure you're leaving no trace behind when you pack up to enter back to the working world!

Memorial Day weekend always brings the fireworks out, and every year we like to do a quick reminder!

To keep fireworks fun and safe, check out our list of 13 tips to ensure that everyone stays out of harm’s way when playing with pyrotechnics.

Motorcycle riders continue to be overrepresented in fatal traffic crashes. In 2021, 5,932 motorcyclists died. (Newer statistics are still being built, but the number keeps rising!) To keep everyone safe, we urge drivers and motorcyclists to share the road and be alert, and we're reminding motorcyclists to make themselves visible, to use DOT-compliant motorcycle helmets, and to always ride sober.

Mental Health Awareness Month
|
Mental Health Awareness Month was established in 1949 to increase awareness of the importance of mental health and wellness in Americans’ lives and to celebrate recovery from mental illness. For more than 20 years, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has recognized Mental Health Awareness Month every May to increase awareness about the vital role mental health plays in our overall health and well-being.

Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month
|
When teens and parents talk with each other about relationships and sex, teens are more likely to make healthy decisions. Studies show that teens who report having ongoing conversations with their parents about sex wait longer to begin having sex and are more likely to use condoms and other birth control methods when they eventually become sexually active. Moreover, these studies have shown that teens want to hear what their parents think and feel about sex and relationships.

Spring Wildlife Awareness
|
Spring is a time of renewal, and for wildlife in the United States, it’s a time to emerge from their winter slumber. As the weather warms up and the snow melts away, animals begin to stir and come out of hibernation. While it’s exciting to see these creatures out and about, human encounters can pose risks for both the wildlife and people.

Family Watchdog is now highlighting four random cases from National Center for Missing and Exploited Children so we can bring the awareness of our children missing in the United States. We highly encourage you to visit their website and search in your area to see what children are missing and what you can do to help. Do not approach missing children unless the child is in danger, always call 911 or 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678)
Each month we will randomly choose four missing children's cases from the NCMEC website. You can submit a missing children's case to us possibly highlight in one of our newsletters by emailing us.
