Happy Halloween!

Take a few minutes to review some safety tips for your family this Halloween!

To start off All Hallows' Eve Night right, head on over to Family Watchdog to scan the neighborhood you plan on Trick-or-Treating at.

Search for registered sex offenders and make a list of addresses you do not wish to visit. Certain states do not allow offenders to participate in handing out treats to children; you can check with your local police department to make sure this is the case in your area.

As always, if you see something, report it!

CHECK CANDY

Image

Every Parents favorite part of Halloween is taking the "parent tax"; - where parents alike take all the Reese's and leave children with the dud candies that they hopefully do not eat all in one night.

Of course while doing so,  parents are discarding any open candy wrappers, homemade treats , and other unwanted "treats" that their children collected while Trick-or-Treating.

Did you know that some fire stations and dentist offices will take the candy your children collect and exchange it for something like a toy or gift certificate?

MYTH: DRUGS IN CANDY?

Image

For years and years there have been rumors about candy being laced with drugs and handed out to children.

While there is no concrete evidence of this happening often, it has happened in the past in very few, isolated incidents.

While we are not saying it cannot happen, it's not very likely that the man handing out candy has laced them with drugs as drugs are very expensive and not very economically ideal. In other words, no one who consumes drugs is going to start tossing them into bags of unsuspecting trick-or-treaters. Are there psychopaths out there who would take delight in such a malicious act? Certainly. But by and large, popular culture has seized on rumors, gossip, innuendo and half-truths to make drugs in Halloween candy a time-honored tradition of All Hollow's Eve.
