Are your children attending a new school this year? Maybe an offender has moved into your school's district over the summer, and you didn't know about it? (Note: Sign up for FREE notifications for your home AND school at our site below and never miss an offender!) Have you checked our site to see who lives near your children's school and the walkways they may encounter? Not all states have laws in regard to where an offender can live - meaning how far they can live from your child's school. Click here to see the laws and definitions of the state you live in. Don't forget when registering your children for school to tell others of our site as well!

Send Them To School Prepared
|
|
|
|
It's probably the most dreaded part of back-to-school season for most parents (besides the registration process). As parents, we know the struggle all too well.
Most schools will provide a supplies list for the children by grade or classroom. By shopping ahead on Amazon or Walmart online, you can beat the in-store rush and get what you need quickly and easily.
Many school districts host back to school supply drives - where you can receive your child's supply list (and sometimes even a backpack) from the support of the community at no cost. All you need to do is a little research to see if anyone is hosting one near you!

It's a good idea to get a game plan on how your child will get to school this year. Here are some quick things to think about when choosing your children's mode of transportation for the year!
WALKERS - do your children have to walk in the dark in the morning, are they crossing or walking near a busy street? Are you accompanying them on their walk?
BUS RIDERS - Is your child's bus stop in a well-lit area? Is there an adult waiting for the bus with them? (Talk to other parents about taking turns.) What happens if the bus is late - do you have a backup plan?
CAR RIDERS & DRIVERS - If your child is a driver in high school, make sure they are following all traffic laws. It's also a great time to set up a carpool with your neighborhood friends!

Most schools publish their lunch menu online so you can plan accordingly. If your children plan on packing their lunches, you may want to send a few extra dollars so they can grab a la carte. Packing a lunch ensures your children's nutrition and allergy safety if they have any food allergies or restrictions.

|
|
|
Have you put thought into what your family's plan is for after school care if you are not home? Maybe your children are going to a babysitter, family member, daycare, club house, friend's house or after school program?
It's a good idea to have a plan in place and a backup plan in case of an emergency.

Quick and Easy Dinner Ideas for School Nights
|
With the kids going back to school, it's an easier time to get back on schedule. Planning quick and easy dinners will help your entire family calm down from the work and school days.

|
Setting and Maintaining a School Schedule
|
A daily schedule benefits both younger and older children by providing a structured environment. While it's unlikely that you'll follow the same schedule every day, year in and year out, having a weekday schedule for the school year can make a positive difference for your kids and family life.

National Immunization Awareness Month

School is right around the corner, and many schools require their students to be up to date on their vaccinations. Is your child up to date and are you informed what they are being immunized for? Educate yourself today.

Ophthalmologists recommend periodic eye exams every 2-4 years from the ages of 40 to 65, and every 1-2 years after the age of 65.
Keep your eyes healthy and your vision clear. Schedule your eye exam and make sure your good to go for the school year!

|
Sports Physicals and Wellness Visits
|
If your child plans on playing any sports, it's a good time to get that physical scheduled so they are ready to play! It's also a good time once the school year starts to have your children go in for their wellness check visit.

Family Watchdog wants you, the parent, to help take a stand against bullying. STOP letting your children be bullies. STOP letting your children BE bullied. STOP bullying when you see it. I know, it's a large step to take, but together we can help put bullying to an end.
What is Bullying?
Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. Both kids who are bullied and who bully others may have serious, lasting problems.
How can you help STOP BULLYING? When adults respond quickly and consistently to bullying behavior, they send the message that it is not acceptable. Research shows this can stop bullying behavior over time. There are simple steps adults can take to stop bullying on the spot and keep kids safe.
All kids involved in bullying—whether they are bullied, bully others, or see bullying—can be affected. It is important to support all kids involved to make sure the bullying doesn’t continue, and effects can be minimized. Be supportive if your child is being bullied. Get involved with the other child/parent/school to learn where this behavior is coming from.

Did you know that all school officials and caregivers are Mandatory Reporters for Child abuse? Just like Doctors and Nurses, they are required by law to report any form of abuse they think has/is occurring to a child.
Learn to recognize the signs of abuse and what needs to be done about it - who to report to, how to report and when to report. You might just save a child's life from a situation at home that they are unable to report themselves or know that it is WRONG that they are being treated in such a way!
They should not be the only ones that are required to report. If you see something off about a child - maybe, they avoid eye contact when being spoken to or steal other children's lunches - you can and should be their voice. Never second guess and almost always go with your gut. You never know the child that cannot speak about a situation at home. Smaller children act out when playing often. Know the signs and get familiar with child abuse! Each week 60,000 children in the United States are reported abused and neglected. Need more facts?

Family Watchdog is now highlighting four random cases from National Center for Missing and Exploited Children so we can bring the awareness of our children missing in the United States. We highly encourage you to visit their website and search in your area to see what children are missing and what you can do to help. Do not approach missing children unless the child is in danger, always call 911 or 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678)
Each month we will randomly choose four missing children's cases from the NCMEC website. You can submit a missing children's case to us possibly highlight in one of our newsletters by emailing us.
