Spring is here!

It’s official; spring is upon us, which means so is Easter. To celebrate the end of lent many of us will be enjoying the sweet taste of chocolate, after giving it up for 40 days. To mark the end of lent and the beginning of Easter, many individuals and families undertake the traditional Easter egg hunt. Either in your own back garden, or through an organization, Easter egg hunts are a fun time for family and friends to come together, as they go on the hunt for hidden eggs, in the hopes of catching the Easter egg bunny. Unfortunately, this is also a time when predators are most likely to strike, as they believe, and rightly so, that many individuals won’t be concerned about the safety of themselves or their loved ones. However, this should be a time when you are extremely cautious of people, taking the necessary time to defend yourself should you fall prey to an attacker. Below are some tips you should bear in mind when you’re out searching for the Easter egg bunny and his or her hidden treats.

1. If you’re on an Easter egg bunny trail with friends, make sure that you all stick together. Safety is in numbers, so anyone considering approaching you will think twice if there are more than two people. Not only that, but if a few of you go off on one trail, when the rest follow another, you will still be protected with the number of people you have together.

2. Make sure that you stick to paths that you know well, if your trail is not in your own back garden. Wondering off the beaten track will make you a likely victim, if your attacker knows the layout of where you are wondering. If however you do have to go off the trail on your Easter egg search, take the time to research the layout of where you will be going before getting there. This will prepare you, and will give you the confidence that you need, which will present a bigger message to someone who could be watching you.

3. Keep an eye on your surroundings. During events such as an Easter egg hunt, many people forget to keep an eye on what is going on around them, which could pose a threat to their safety. Even though searching for Easter eggs is a fun activity for everyone of all ages to take part in, that doesn’t mean you should be negligent when it comes to your safety and the safety of others.

4. Lastly, if someone approaches you to tell you about a hidden Easter egg off the trail, don’t follow them. When you are on a trail, it will already be set up and a map will already be laid out, detailing where you need to go. Anyone telling you about a supposedly hidden treat, only plans to take you away from you group in the hopes of harming you. Don’t fall for this trick.

While these may be obvious pointers to know, it is surprising the amount of people who don’t take the necessary precautions before they undertake any kind of activity. By remaining safe, you can enjoy your Easter egg hunt, and avoid the possibility of becoming a victim of the Easter Egg Bunny.
