Make Sure Your Children Stay Safe this Easter
April marks the end of Lent and the beginning of Easter. It's also a time for children to enjoy the various Easter egg hunts around your neighbourhood. However, while it's fun to see them taking part in the hunts as they find hidden eggs left behind by the Easter Bunny, parents should remember that it's also a time for them to remain alert to their children's whereabouts. When you are out with your children this Easter it is a good idea to know exactly where you will be going and the type of area it is. If you know the area this will add to your advantage as you will more than likely also know the families that live there.
Of course, that doesn't mean you should be any less complacent when it comes to the safety of your children. During these times when there is an increase in public activity people are just as likely to take advantage of this. All it takes is for the parent to look away for a second for someone to make their move on your child, which could see your child being abducted.
In order to avoid such a situation from taking place you must keep an eye on them at all times. Instead of simply letting them wander off on their own as they search for hidden eggs, why not take part too? This way you spend quality time together as a family, but it also gives you chance to enjoy the search too.
If they are searching with friends make sure that they are in a group of at least four. Two won't suffice as if something has happened one of them will have to leave the other, leaving them vulnerable as help is sought. If there are four, though, two can stay together while the two remaining can seek help. This way everyone will be with someone, increasing their safety at all times.
Regardless of whether your children are searching for eggs with friends or not, you need to explain to them the importance of not talking to strangers. This is something that should have been instilled in them from a young age, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't explain it to them again.
If they feel in any way threatened they should instantly remove themselves from the situation in the quickest manner possible. Explain to them that by calling out, if someone approaches them that they are not comfortable with, they will attract attention, which is what you want.
These steps may in themselves seem obvious, but that's not to say that everyone follows them in some shape or form. It doesn't take long for a person to take a child when someone is not watching them. There are, however, measures in which these types of situations
can be avoided. By following these simple steps you can ensure that all of you have an enjoyable Easter this year as you all enjoy the eggs found on the egg hunts.
