Happy May everyone! As the rain starts to come down, we hope your flowers are starting to come up!

Maybe you are starting on some early gardening? Check out the following link from The Better Health Channel about gardening safety from A-Z: Click here...

Speaking of the gardening weather, it is also Tornado weather for those of you that live in the tornado zone. Do you have a emergency kit assembled or a evacuation plan? If not, there are some great sites out there to get you started. On average, 60-80 people die a year from tornados in the US. Please be aware and prepared!

Child Abuse Prevention  Last month was Child Abuse Awareness month. If you follow us on Facebook, odds are you have seen one of the many horrific stories we have posted. Many times child abuse is overseen because the child does not go to school or go to relatives houses. If you hear children crying or screaming more than what you consider normal, make a call to the police and CPS. And don’t just end it there. Follow up!

Between child abuse and our next topic, child care, I wanted to share with everyone the importance of doing reference checks, background checks and talking to other parents to children in childcare. Finding the right caregiver for your child should be something looked into. Of course, you should check their neighborhood for registered sex offenders at – first double check that if there is a RSO in the area that they are in their right to live there. (You can do this by calling the local police.)

Many of our followers have heard of little Savannah Cross in Arizona. Her mother dropped her off at a daycare for an extended amount of time with people she trusted. Over 18+ days, little Savannah was beaten and tortured until her death in 2012. You can read more on her story on

If her mother would have done the proper background checks and NOT left her daughter at an unlicensed daycare provider, Savannah just may be alive today.

A great website to look for childcare is SitterCity.
Grandparents  Is your child going to be spending this summer with their grandparents? Maybe you are the grandparent? Take the next few weeks to talk about a safety plan for your grandchildren. What to do if they get hurt, who to call. Make sure your house is in top safety condition before they get there! Need some awesome ideas of cheap (or free) things to do this summer? Well, we here at Family Watchdog have you covered my friend.

•  Plan a picnic at your local park or beach.
•  Take them to a storytelling session at the local library or museum.
•  Teach them how to putt by making a small golf course in your back yard.
•  Make a pizza with them. Kids love to add their own toppings!
•  Have a picture drawing contest of each other. Only after you do each others make-up or hair!
•  Chalk drawings and bubbles.
•  Water the plants with a plastic mister bottle. Kids love to get dirty, maybe plant some flowers or a tree that never dies!
•  Go fishing. Make sure you have the proper permit if needed!
•  Start a scrapbook of magazine clippings, mementos from their visit, ot photos of their parents.
•  Visit the local fire station, police station, coal mines... anywhere with cool trucks or loud cars!
Last month we featured a story from one of our followers. This month we want to spotlight what her daughter, the victim, sent in. You can read more here.
Mom  Happy Mother's day to all the mom's that follow us! Hope your day is filled with love and joy!

Please remember to be safe this Memorial Day! We want you to enjoy the weekend while having a safe, yet fun time with your family.
Remember the basics - no drinking and driving, wear a life vest if you are in water or on a boat, extinguish all fires when done and keep alcoholic beverages away from children. Have a great May everyone!
If you are interested in receiving an online PDF file of our brochure, please email Jane at Jane has all the PDF files. All other questions or concerns, please email the above email address. When asking for a brochure, please be reminded that they are for our website and do not show any offenders info. There are two styles to choose from, please tell Jane which one you would like, a trifold or flyer type.

If you would like to print out an offenders "profile" to post around, please make sure it is legal to do so in your state by calling your local police. We do not want anyone to get in any trouble by doing so. We now have a “print screen” option. If you need any further help on this, please contact customer service.
